How to Get a Visa to Ireland before Heading for the Emerald IsleÂ
Getting a visa to Ireland is easy if you are a citizen of a European Union country. For those who are not, the application is available online. The application is quite lengthy and requires information on you, your travel plans, and your financial stability.
Documentation: In addition to a valid passport you will need to verify your accommodations with motel reservations and the ability to fund your visit through bank statements. If visiting relatives you will need to supply a letter with their name and address. You will also need a two-inch square passport photo.
Application: Before you can get a visa to travel to Ireland, you must fill out the application. These are available online and at your Ireland embassy and consulate. All applications must be filled out in English. Using the online application avoids illegible handwriting and you can print it out once its completed. Unless they are under the age of 16, all applicants are required to sign their own application.
Fees: Visa fees will need to be included when you submit your application. Transit visas, which allow you to stop in Ireland but not leave the area where you enter, are $25 each. Multiple entry visas are $148 and allow you to leave and re-enter Ireland. This includes traveling to Northern Ireland. Standard travel visas are $89 and allow you to travel inside the country.
Exemptions: Residents of Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland as well as residents of the 27 European Union countries who possess a valid passport are not required to have entry visas. You will definitely need a transit visas if you wish to visit Northern Ireland. Individuals who have travel documents issued under the Geneva Convention Article 28 are also exempt.
Approval: Visa applications take an average of eight weeks to complete. Ireland’s officials recommend that you have documentation, application and fees in hand before you visit their embassy or consulate. The most common reason for delays and denial are illegible handwriting and missing documentation.Â
