The Mediterranean Diet: the Diet From Across the Sea

Perhaps a world map will pinpoint the location of where you can get the diet program that will lead you to a slimmer, healthier you.

Perhaps it would be in a country, in an island in the sea, or in the sea itself.

The Mediterranean Diet is not really from the Mediterranean Sea or from any of the 16 countries within its parameter. This diet is actually more than a lifestyle: people are practicing a certain standard of living that would encourage them to be healthy and generally positive with their outlook in life. Still, in the middle of 1990 as introduced by Harvard’s Dr. Walter Willet, this diet adhered to the 1960-dietary pattern of the people living in Italy (south) and Greece.

The Mediterranean Diet focuses on two main aspects:

  • physical activities like exercise
  • foods that are natural and nutritious
    • Furthermore, this diet calls for one to eat in big proportions the following:

      • beans
      • potatoes
      • breads and cereals (like oat flakes)
      • nuts and seeds
      • fruits (almost any will do but pass up on grapes and bananas) and vegetables

While the following should be taken sparingly or in strict moderation:

      • fish (ideally grilled)
      • poultry
      • eggs
      • red meat
      • dairy products

It is noted that those who are living in Mediterranean countries and have been observing this diet were found to be far from risk of developing heart diseases. As matter of fact, more people in the USA suffer from heart complications than those in the Mediterranean.

When one is under the Mediterranean Diet, he/she should refrain from the following:

      • unnatural foods particularly those with “trans fat” (better read labels carefully before buying anything)
      • drinks like sodas (especially those beverages that are artificially sweetened) and beer
      • as for fruit juices, better opt to squeeze them out of the fruit yourself than buying those canned juices

The Mediterranean Diet is composed of hearty meals that will make you healthy or lose weight or both, depending upon your needs. Its meal plans are excitingly delicious, and Diet Fads can lead you to more helpful information regarding this diet.
