SLAMP | The Leading Light: Italian lighting modern table and floor lamps
A cultural attitude, rather than just industrial, marks Slamp’s research, a company established by Roberto Ziliani in 1994.
Innovation and aesthetic renovation with no limits are the chief ingredients of the creative process of the company, which has the real DNA of Italian Style. For instance, part of the inspiration for each project also comes from architecture, always coexisting
with design in Italy, as regards both creative and operative process. This pair (most appreciated in the contract industry, in particular) underlies the story and success of Slamp, tank also to the various designers of International renown, who share Slamp’s spirit. First of all, Nigel Coates, director of the Architecture Department at the Royal College of Art in London and Art Director at Slamp.
Advanced technologies of prototyping and manufacturing enable Slamp to meet the public’s requirements promptly, especially the request for an almost handicraft product yet carried out through a semi-industrial production. “Innovation and appearance”, Roberto Ziliani says, “must always come at reasonable prices.” That’s why luxury on a budget was the inspiring theme for the latest works presented at Euroluce 2009, some of them purposely designed for the contract industry.
Since their inception in 1994, this Rome-based company has been dedicated to creating lights with character; lights that deliver a flash of artistry. Slamp are experts at exploring and playing with the effects of light and shade in a decorative and original way.
Over the past fifteen years they have commissioned internationally famous designers for their lighting ranges both for the home and for public spaces.
Slamp transforms its materials in "decor" thanks to its sophisticated productive technology. It selects the best possible natural and technical materials for all the components: natural leather, prestigious woods, Swarovski crystals, anodized brass, steel, shiny finishinox steel.
The materials in sheets which characterize Slamp production are: Opalflex Cristalflex Steelflex.
Opalflex
Exclusive material which is recyclable and patented used for making Slamp lamps. Luminous, opalescent and as attractive as glass, versatile and unbreakable as plastic, it is patented and produced exclusively for Slamp. Opalflex is a totally original mix of polymers and particular additives with unique properties for the emanation of light. The gradation of the colours, which is also brought about by serigraphic means, renders the lamps into luminous presences which create a specifically unmistakable atmosphere.
Cristalflex
Transparent material developed and produced by Bayer Vivak. As brilliant as glass, light and versatile as only modern materials can be.
Steelflex
Steelflex is an innovative material with a perfectly reflecting surface. A mirror which distinguishes itself for its flexibility, a quality which is absolutely indispensable for all the Slamp sheet materials.
Each product is checked and each stage of its making is verified so as to maintain all the characteristics of quality and success. A staff of qualified personnel deals with the production, all the productive phases are followed scrupulously and rigorously. All the products are assembled on a one-to-one basis as handicrafts are. The serigraphic processes are also artistic prints. Customer care is available for our clients as regards the checking of orders. Orders are shipped daily by carrier.
Finally, great attention is paid to the packing of the products, both in terms of presentation, as well as resistance and manageability. The ribbons on the Slamp tube boxes are the unmistakable sign of the Slamp concept of light to give and to be given.
This year Slamp have presented exciting new products and have organised their range into four families. These families, The Beauties, The Simples, The Futures, and The Totems, are partly based on functional typology, but also on their decorative anguage.
The Beauties are rich, layered and have a chandelier-like stature. They include classics like Ginetta and Fiorella, and the exquisite new Creatures.
The Simples, like Goccia and Gemmy, are smaller, simpler and more playful.
The Futures, including newcomers Corona and Pacis, have more abstract outlines, wheels that appear to spin across a room, or attach directly to the ceiling.
The Totems bring sculptural form to the floor standing lamp, from the simplicity of the original Tube to the wavy columns of Dea.
All Slamp lights embrace energy saving lamps and apply technologically advanced materials such as the light diffusing Opalflex, or the optically complex Cristalflex. All products represent a close collaboration between Slamp and its principal designers: Nigel Coates, Stefano Papi, Luca Mazza and Adriano Rachele - the creative force behind the company.
