Handling Confusion â Part 2
Continue from part 1, and below are the steps to handle confusion:
Draw a circle and write inside the circle all the things you want.
Go for it. Don’t even think about whether you have enough money, whether you deserve these things, or whether they are possible. Just write. Review your list in six months or a year. You will be amazed at how your life has changed in the direction of those things you wrote down. Don’t take my word for it. Try it.
Make a collage of magazine pictures reflecting scenes, words, and people that uplift you.
Spend a happy evening with yourself or a couple of friends. You’ll need a good pile of old magazines, scissors, a glue stick, and few pieces of poster board or colored construction paper. Put on some nice music and begin to leaf quickly through the magazines to see whatever attracts you – words, sentences, pictures of items that you want, scenes that evoke great enthusiasm in you. Tape together a couple of big pieces of the poster board or construction paper to use as a background on to which to paste your cutouts. You will begin to see a kind of flow or natural organization happening as you put together your collage.
Keep your collage where you can see it for a while as it begins to stimulate new things coming into your life. If it no longer has the initial excitement for you, put it away where you cannot see it. Pull it out in a year and see what has come into your life that matches something on the collage!
Do something simple that’s been nagging at you.
If we are confused, our natural tendency is to feel overwhelmed by everything. Our usual mode of coping is to revert to our favorite habits of releasing tension, such as eating, drinking alcohol, taking a pill, or watch television. We also procrastinate. Doing even one little thing, like cleaning off your desk or cleaning out a single drawer, can give you a lift. Whenever we feel better about ourselves, our energy naturally rises, and we relax. When we’re relaxed we are much more likely to feel we can handle things.
Stop telling everyone you’re confused.
You’ve already talked with yourself about how confused you are. Continuing to build a case for your confusion will not produce the result you want. This habit of hashing over the current problem is hard to break. Of course, genuinely speaking from your heart with a trusted friend who can truly listen is a gift from heaven. However, too often we launch into our current story of woe, and it really does nothing to uplift us or the person listening. Just notice how your own energy starts to drop when you hear other people’s sad tales.
